Polyamine Process Additives
For the oil and gas industry, polyisobutylene succinimide (PIBSI) process additives, manufactured by derivatizing PIBSA with polyamines, are primarily used in antifoulants formulations for a wide range of applications. These include products for preventing asphaltene deposition in the production of oil and gas, as well as fouling in heat transfer equipment in refining operations.
Nelson Brothers typically works with 1000MW molecular weight PIBSA for the development of process additives, however Nelson Brothers can provide products derived from the full range of available HR PIB molecular weights (450 – 2300) or offer custom blends.
The molecular weight range is selected to provide the properties necessary to withstand the demanding conditions required for products used in these applications.
Nelson Brothers polyisobutylene succinimide (PIBSI) process additives are manufactured using polyisobutylene (PIB) that has been produced via the thermal process and therefore there is no residual chlorine present. An important consideration if these products are used in high temperature applications and corrosion can be an issue as well as catalyst poisoning. Nelson Brothers products are predominantly produced from highly reactive polyisobutylene (HR PIB), however products based on conventional polyisobutylene can also be produced if required by the customer.
Nelson Brothers is advantageously positioned for the custom manufacture of succinic anhydride and related derivatives. As a well-established PIBSA manufacturer, we have developed a broad base of capabilities to meet a wide range of applications.
